When I first started MelisFit I posted blog posts all the time in regards to fitness, yoga, fashion, beauty, and health. Somewhere in the past year the posts stopped and I am so excited to continue my blog starting today! First of all, so much has changed in the past year. If you follow me on Instagram you know part of the story, but I am excited to share more about myself & my life on here!
About a year ago I came on a trip to LA with my sister. I had always wanted to relocate from Florida to LA but life gets in the way as I am sure you know. Career, relationships, obligations etc kept putting what I really wanted in life to the side. On this trip, something switched in my brain. At 27 years old, I was living a life that wasn’t 100% fulfilling, I was getting older and if I wasn’t going to do it now, then when? After coming back to Florida from my trip, I instantly put a plan into action. If you know me, then you know I don’t do anything impulsively. I worked on a plan over the next few months that would allow me to leave my job, sell my house, and move across the country with just a dream of creating the life I always wanted.
Finally, on December 18 (I will never forget the day), Brady (my 5 year old Maltipoo) and I said goodbye to Florida, my family, my life I had known for the past 10 years and boarded a one way flight to LAX. I had NO idea what to expect. For the past 6 years of my life I had worked in corporate America as a certified public accountant. I got my masters and undergraduate degrees in accounting and thought I had it all figured out. Side note: I just want to add that there is absolutely nothing wrong with working in Corporate America. My years building my career are some of the most rewarding years of my life. I met and learned from incredible people and it built my foundation for work ethic and running my own business. However, while I was working in accounting, I started a hobby called MelisFit (This blog!!) and it became clear to me that my passion was more in the yoga, health & fitness industry. I knew I wanted to explore this field and knew in my heart if I never did, I would regret it.
My first few months in LA had its ups and downs. Ups: Meeting incredible new people, moving into my new place, having flexibility to figure out my life, exploring a new city, getting my yoga teacher training certification. The downs are not important because they could never outweigh the ups! However, I will tell you my skin went through the worst breakout of my life and I had a string of sinuses infections due to the dry weather (all minor issues now LOL!)
I have so much to share with you about my journey over the past 8 months in Los Angeles and everything that I have learned. I get e-mails all the time asking me about how I did it? And what advice I have? I will answer all of that on my blog. Feel free to comment questions below or you can always send me an e-mail! Thank you for joining in on my journey. Xo Melis
